ABOUT Harry Williamson Maternity Residence

Since 1989, Urban Strategies Maternity Residence, a Tier II shelter, has housed pregnant women and their spouse or partner. The facility is opened 24 hours a day 7 days a week, in order to assist residents and their families.

All residents are assigned to a case manager who assists with the provision of social services and housing throughout their stay. Our staff promotes family unification and encourage clients to empower themselves, be accountable, self-sufficient, and transition into their community as productive and independent citizens.

Today, in order to meet the diverse needs of our community, this facility offers: counseling, housing readiness, job preparation, independent living and life skills workshops, and conflict resolution training.

We also provide the following referral services:

• postpartum

All referrals into our shelters are made directly by New York City Department of Homeless Services.
