About Us
We are committed to addressing the critical issues such as unemployment, homelessness, childcare, hunger, teen pregnancy and education. Our community centric approach encourages independent living, economic growth, and social empowerment.
Urban Strategies has owned and operated; over 500 units of low and moderate-income housing, 10 storefronts, and 3 Department of Homeless Services shelters enhanced with case management and support services throughout New York City. Currently, the agency operates, three (3) Early Learn Programs funded by Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), which include Head Start, Child Care and Universal Pre-K; two (2) Universal Pre-K Programs funded by Department of Education (DOE), two (2) After-School Programs funded by Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), two (2) After-School Programs funded by Human Resource Administration (HRA), a GED program and a food pantry.

Urban Strategies strives to promote, empower, enhance, motivate and contribute to the general well-being of the youth and families in throughout New York City. It is the dream of our founders that the agency will continue to strengthen the community and the lives of those who enter its doors.
Our Story
Urban Strategies, Inc. founded by community residents under the leadership of former New State Assemblyman Thomas Boyland.
Mona Green joined the agency as Executive Director.
Urban Strategies was awarded its first social services program which assisted senior citizens.
Urban Strategies Inc. established its first youth job training and employment program.
Developed the Head Start program.
Community Development Agency (CDA) funded Urban Strategies’ youth program for teen truancy.
Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) funded two of Urban Strategies’ shelters.
Urban Strategies established the Dean Street Shelter for large families.
Urban Strategies stated two-day care programs.
Urban Strategies curated a Teenage Pregnancy Service Act Program (TASA) which was funded by New York State.
Urban Strategies was awarded 20 bed teenage runaway shelter funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
In conjunction with the Administration of Children Services (ACS) Urban Strategies operated a Foster Care shelter.
Urban Strategies opened the Urban Strategies Maternity Residence.
The organization worked with the Administration of Children Services (ACS) to operate a Foster Care shelter.
43 low-income housing units were acquired under NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Special Initiatives Program.
81 low-income housing units were acquired under NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) LISC Program.
178 low-income housing units were acquired under NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Special Initiatives Program.
Urban Strategies Established the Fannie Barnes Residence as a family shelter.
45 low-income housing units were acquired under NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) / LISC Program.
Urban Strategies was awarded a contract to operate the Community Consultant Program funded by HPD.
Founded the Urban Strategies/ Brookdale Family Care Center.
27 low-income housing units were acquired under NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) NOW Program.
Urban Strategies added Youth Build to the agency’s youth initiative.
Urban Strategies was awarded a contract to operate a Scatter Site II program for persons with HIV/AIDS funded by The Human Resources Administration of New York City.
Borough President Marty Markowitz presented Urban Strategies, Inc. with a proclamation for, “extraordinary efforts toward improving the quality of life of individuals in need”.
Urban Strategies was awarded with a DYCD/OCFS discretionary contract for Teenage Youth and Pregnancy Prevention.
Urban Strategies reaches 25 years of services the community of New York City.
Urban Strategies was awarded a Safe Horizons grant for the DOVE Program.
Through the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development NHP Program Urban Strategies renovated and sold 15 two (2) and three (3) family low-income houses.
The Final Form Fitness Studio was opened on Pitkin Avenue.
Urban Strategies was awarded a DYCD funded SONYC After-School Program at P.S./I.S 137.
Urban Strategies was awarded a DYCD funded SONYC After-School Program at Final Form Fitness and 255 Atkins Avenue.
