ABOUT The Fannie Barnes Residence
In 1994, Urban Strategies, Inc. opened the Fannie Barnes Residence, a Tier II transitional shelter under NYC Department of Homeless Services. Fannie Barnes Residence has serviced thousands of community residents to reduce homelessness and assist the plight of needy families throughout the Brooklyn area.
Today, in order to assist the diverse needs of our community, this facility offers GED classes, Narcotics Anonymous, a computer lab, a food pantry, after school programs, and summer camps. Fannie Barnes Residence also provides full service case management for families, counseling, housing placement, educational services, health services, and other social service linkages to transition families towards independent living.
All referrals into our shelters are made directly by New York City Department of Homeless Services.
